· The Parents We Deserve by Ron Singer (te). Where to start. Okay, a rich couple, Paul and Paula, in their thirties decide to place an ad to get replacement parents. They hire Myra and Myron. Then M&M die, and then P&P die. They all four meet up in a very boring heaven. So, they get bumped down to purgatory. And then – wait –I leaving something out. It’s very funny! The puns are unrelenting. The commentary on contemporary mores is sly. It’s short. I felt bad that I read just this novella, so I broke my rule about only one book and got a book of Ron’s poetry, Look to the Mountains, Look to the Sea. If you read nothing else, read Local Color to get Ron’s read on the folks north of Boston.
