End Time by Keith Korman??. Mysterious disappearances, brutal murder, strange, devastating plagues, and visitations from past times pull you in to this scary, wildly inventive adventure where life as we know it is threatened. The menace (beyond anything) is offset by an unlikely team – an American Indian, a Punjabi Indian, a lesbian cop, and a brassy barista. Also on the good side are a psychic child, a genetically gifted Chinese American girl, and a sweet ghost inhabiting the Punjabi’s sister-in-law’s home. But can they counter the omnipresent Felix the Cat and the swarms of devastating Skeeters, mosquitos programed for pestilence? Can they outrun the plan to reproduce an alien-based new human? Sounds crazy, but I had fun reading this lively, scary saga. The prose is rich in vivid descriptions and engrossing allusions to science, religion, and history.
Oh, and did I mention the evil mastermind? This work does for the Pied Piper what It did for clowns.
